Warm, gooey cheese dripping down golden-brown dough 🤤. Pizza is life for many of us and about 94 percent of us eat pizza on a regular basis. However, most of the time gluten free pizza misses the mark.

Yet pizza stopped hitting the spot for me after my favorite place to get it closed. I got used to eating disappointing pizza all the time. Then one day I was invited to a friend's birthday party, and they were kind enough to get me a gluten free personal pie. I was blown away when I took the first bite. As soon as I left the party, I immediately texted my friend asking about where this delicious slice of heaven came from.

That's when I discovered Nellie's Place in Waldwick. Nellie's Place is one of the true gems of the gluten free universe 💎💎💎.

Nellie's is a bar style restaurant, with a chill and cozy energy. Their claim to fame is thin crust pizza made in-house from scratch.

Good service is a huge part of this family-friendly restaurant. They also make one mean Shirley temple! We must acknowledge the star of the show, the gluten free pizza.

Nellie's has quickly become one of my favorites. Every time I crave pizza; I head down to this amazing establishment. There is something for everyone at this restaurant and it is a wonderful experience every time I step in.

I urge that the next time you are hungering for a cheesy slice of pizza, you make your way down to this local eatery!

Talk to you soon,

Shirley Temples are my favorite drink. While many claim the beverage is too sugary, it is one of the most perfect things on this earth to me! My friends and I are all obsessed with this drink.

Anecdote time!

Recently, I got bloodwork results back and it said that my gluten levels were high. I hadn't added a lot to my diet, but I had been drinking Shirley temples frequently. This is when my family and I went into investigation mode. That is when I learned a fact that almost made my world crumble. (Dramatic. I know.).

Not all Shirley temples are gluten free!

They are naturally gluten free so I never thought to question if it could be making me sick. One of my favorite brands to have at home when I felt too lazy to handcraft one was Saranac. Through my thorough investigative research, I discovered that Saranac Shirley temples are not gluten free.

I try to be more careful now when I go out to eat. When I am at home, I stick to making my own Shirley Temples with grenadine and syrup that I know are gluten free. (Side note: My favorite grenadine is Rose's! It is verified to be gluten free.)

Overall, I shared this story as a reminder to be mindful about everything you put in your body. Don't make assumptions. I would have never thought to check if the drinks I was consuming were gluten free. It never hurts to ask if you are unsure if something is gluten free.

See you next time,

Your Allergy Avenger.
